Rated as a contender for Money Magazine/CNN Top Places to Live in 2007, Luling was recognized for affordable housing, short commute times, job growth and more. Originally inhabited by Native Americans, the area rapidly increased in population about 300 years ago with the arrival of Europeans. Nearby Lake Pontchartrain is a brackish lake, serving as the second largest salt-water lake in the US. Evolved from the fertile Mississippi River Delta, it covers an area of 630 square miles. Also bordered by the lake is New Orleans, with its multicultural heritage, music and cuisine.
